Use the controls inside the visualization to explore the data. This is a wide dashboard: on a smaller screen, scroll sideways within the frame or open the full dashboard on Tableau Public (new tab).

About this dashboard

Select a state and school district, then choose a starting year. The chart shows change relative to that baseline. Turn individual series on or off and select a point to see the underlying counts. A change in the starting year changes the comparison.

Data and source notes

The supporting article identifies the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) Common Core of Data, Local Education Agency Universe Survey, 1992–93 through 2024–25, accessed through the ELSi table generator (Table ID 656391). Non-teaching staff is calculated as total staff minus teachers. Availability may vary by district and year.
